Air Source Heat Pumps

Air Source Heat Pumps

Air source heat pumps takes heat from within the air and converts it into energy which it turn is used to provide heating and hot water. They are normally used to complement existing heating systems such as underfloor heating sytems but a backup heat source ie.. a boiler will also be required.   They can account for atleast 80% of the heat and hot water requirements of a well insulated building (the existing sytem makes up the difference during peak times or on colder days)

Air source heat pumps come in two different types, there is air to air and also air to water pumps. Air to air pumps operate by way of captured enegry being released into a  heat exchanger which is then distributed through the home by way of ducting or a fan. They can provide heating and cooling. The air to water pumps pass the energy through a water circuit connected up to a wet heating system or underfloor heating.

Homeowner Benefits for air source heat pumps:

  • Energy consumption for heating can be reduced by up to 50%
  • Air source heat  pumps are very quiet
  • You can take advantage of the renewable heat incentive
  • Some air to air pumps have air purification which can be beneficial for allergy sufferers
